Make-up Magic? The Body Shop All-In-One BB Cream

Earlier this month I visited London, with my amazing friend Nancy (Hey Nancy;) ), and we popped into The Body Shop to have a mooch around and check out their products. I was looking at the make-up range when I noticed something that I had heard being raved about by well-known blogger Zoe Sugg on her July Favourites video  – the Body Shop All-in-One BB Cream. So what? Just another BB cream, right? Well, there’s where you’re very wrong. This BB cream is ‘Colour-adapting’. I read the tube in the store and thought it sounded interesting, but didn’t have much faith. However, when I opened it up and squeezed a little out, I was really surprised. The BB cream was a white, airy, bubbly liquid. I know they are out there, but I personally haven’t ever tried a colour-adapting cream before so had no idea what to expect; although, I still thought it would be the same texture as a BB cream, rather than that of a moisturiser. It works by application to the skin causing pigment-filled capsules to burst – that’s what they say anyway!

As I rubbed it in, I could soon see a colour change and the grey-white turned closer and closer to my skin tone. I couldn’t believe it, but knew I shouldn’t let myself be so easily persuaded by the fancy gimmick. Once I’d left the shop and was waltzing my way down Oxford Street, I couldn’t help but admire how the cream had sunk beautifully into my skin (on my arm), and how it was almost invisible. I knew I had to get my hands on a tube.

So, on a recent shopping trip I found myself back in The Body Shop, admiring the BB Cream once more. With the price tag of £12, it wasn’t too expensive but was significantly more than most regular drugstore BB creams and even some foundations. Something that could be quite confusing is the fact that, although it is said to be ‘colour-adapting’, there are 4 different shades. This is just to accommodate the wide range of skin tones, and they offer to colour match you before you purchase to ensure you have the right shade for you. Since I have very fair skin, I had assumed I would be their lightest shade, 00. The assistant there colour matched me as 02, the second to darkest shade. Very strange? I ignored her advice – sorry! – and continued to purchase the shade 00, and I’m really glad I did since this is the perfect shade for me.

This cream offers a *very* light coverage, almost not there, but I think this is great for everyday wear or for ‘no make-up make-up days’. It does have a slight scent, which I think would possibly put some people off it, and I have read of a few people with sensitive skin who have had breakouts because of this cream. However, I have super sensitive skin and I haven’t found it to be an issue at all. To blend this into my skin, I use either my Real Techniques buffing brush, or just my finger tips – both work well. I would suggest blending this really well into your skin as occasionally it appears a little bit orange-y, but most of the time it suits my skin tone. The BB cream leaves quite a dewy finish, some might find it too shiny – especially if you have oily skin, but nothing that can’t be perfected with a little bit of powder (I love to use the Rimmel Stay Matte powder).
